Gallery Members on Tour April 21 and 22.

Two members of Nelson Gallery are featured in the 1st Annual Lexington Rockbridge Studio Tour on April 21 and 22. The found object studio of Susan Harb and the painting studio of Dorothy Blackwell will be open for the two-day free event. In all 11 studios will open to the public and more than 30 artists will have work on display. Harb will be demonstrating how she puts together her found object assembages. Her guest artists will include Priscilla Whitlock of Charlottesville and Gray Dodson of Amherst, both well-known landscape painters. Jaymie Driver of Harrisonburg will display her jewelry creations. Devan Malore will exhibit his creations made of driftwood rescued from the Maury River. Clover Archer of Rockbridge Baths will have an installation at Blackwell's studio. Canvas are now on sale for the 3rd Annual Nelson Gallery/Rockbridge SPCA Art for Arf, a gallery show fund raiser.

Available, with all the details, at our gallery and other locations including:

Barb's Bakery
Pumpkin Seeds
SPCA
Lexington Antique Mall
VMI Library
Edgewater Animal Hospital in Buena Vista

Create a picture of your favorite pet or creature on a 12x12 canvas to help raise funds for the Rockbridge SPCA. No special artistic skills required, only a desire to do something good for the animals and have fun doing it.

$6,000 raised for the Rockbridge SPCA in the past two years.
More than 100 works on exhibit each of our first two annual shows.
Artists range in age from 4 to 94.
Hobby artists, pet lovers, and professional artists participate

Paint, paste, draw, collage, crayon...dogs, cats, birds, fish, sheep, goats, horses, elephants—it's up to you.

The deadline to participate is May 29th and the show opens June 1st, 2012, so don't wait, get your canvas today and get to painting!

April guest artist will be Benjamin Frey.

Benjamin Frey's work combines his strong drawing style with a unique narrative viewpoint. He's a pleasure to chat with as well and will join us for the opening of his show ath the Nelson Gallery, April 6, from 5 to 7 pm. It should be a lot of fun for all so don't forget to mark it on your calender.

Whether enjoying the works of members Paisley Griffin or Janet Weaver in our front gallery, or cramming into the back gallery for the RCHS Student Show, everyone seemed to be having a great time chatting, looking, and squeezing through doorways from room to room. Photos at the Bistro

Slapping paint around for the next show—this Friday.

If you happen to stop by the gallery after Wednesday, you may notice a change. In order to make the front gallery more visable from the street while brightening things up a bit, members will be doing a bit of painting on Tuesday evening and Wednesday (while the gallery is closed). If all goes well, new art will go up on Thursday and things should should look rather spectacular for the opeing of our next show, Paisley Griffin and Janet Weaver, Mixed Bag: Landscapes, etc.

Time to start thinking about taking your easel outdoors.

For artists, it's never too early to start planning for painting outdoors. This year Nelson Gallery's October Paint Lexington Paintout will be more exciting than ever.

In the early planning stages now, we're working to line up more hosts for out-of-town painters, provide more information about additional ways to enjoy Lexington while you're here, enticing even more guests to come and enjoy the results at our opening reception, and, of course, ways to have even more fun.
